North and West Coast Wales

There has been a Christian presence in the town of Tywyn since the early part of the 6th century. The Cadfen Stone (top right) has inscriptions dating from the 8th or 9th century written in Welsh. This is the oldest record of this written language. Next to it on the right is a prayer sundial that was used in the 10th century to indicate mass times. The Baptismal font (left) is from the 1100s. This memorial (bottom right) is an effigy of a knight wearing plate armour dated around the 1300s
